We finished 3 custom chef knives for a customer in Dallas, TX this week. The builds were unique and two of the three knives were college themed. Both of them are graduation gifts. Here are the details of each knife:

Texas Agge / College Station / ATM knife. This knife is done in a clear resin on black G10 liner. There is a brass ATM medallion embedded on each side. The bolster is Texas mesquite wood with a maroon micarta stripe between two brass stripes. The big pin in front is a handmade mosaic pin done in brass and copper and the two pins in the center and back are brass.
The middle knife was built for the husband and is not college themed. We were asked to use blue colors and wood grain and chose a classic cut of Arizona ironwood. The bolster is sleeping beauty turquoise from a closed mine in Arizona. The stripe of turquoise in the middle is from Cirrolos Hills in NM. It has nickel silver  accent stripes, a handmade mosaic pin in the center done in silver and brass. The pins at the front and back are 416 stainless steel.
The bottom knife is the Colorado State knife. We chose a gold wood that is from Texas. This is an extremely hard wood known as Bois D’arc which is french for “bow wood”. It is also known as Osage orange wood as the Osage Indians used to make their bows out of it. In Texas many refer to this wood as the Horse Apple Tree. It’s the only wood that has this gold color and is very durable. The bolster is made from Colorado maple wood that we dyed dark green to match the school colors. We added a white stripe and brass accents to help the green and gold pop. The front pin is a handmade mosaic in brass and the two back pins are black carbon fiber.
